Which comes first... feeling engaged, or feeling productive?

Where to start… do people who feel engaged become more productive as a result, or does improving productivity drive engagement?

Wow - another great question. If you are able to cultivate engagement it seems like this would be a sure fire way to improve productivity (based on what we know about cognitive performance). The caveat is that what you find most engaging might not be what will realize the value from your productivity (we’ll explore more of this as we explore the Value mindset), so if you are able to explore what is engaging don’t forget to use techniques like the 5 why’s to explore how this connects to your most important, valuable and cherished goals.

I do also think that for some tasks feeling engaged in the beginning can be hard - often because you don’t yet know enough about what is really interesting within it, or you think of it as boring manual repetetive tasks. Using the flow recipe here can help to accelerate productivity, and I’ve found also radically improves my engagement, creating an awesome virtuous spiral!
