Re-introducing Goals

Hi everyone,

Thanks to a lot of hard work by our new founding engineer Harrison we’ve had a redesign of the goals section to better reflect the recommended goals structure, and for those of you not yet using the full power of the flow way / desktop app - you can still get the benefit of seeing your goals daily by having them be emailed to you.

Find out more about it here, and try it out for yourself in your desktop app or in the web app (just click on Goals).

If you are not using the full desktop app experience, but just the web app, or just trying out the system, you can also test the waters of flow, by using the Goals Email system that we have setup. If you are using the desktop app and rituals, then there is no need for you to enable that (since the system guides you to review your goals in your rituals).

Best,

Narath.

I love the simpler look and view format of the new Goals section! A very useful development, thank you! I have a few suggestions for improving usability which I will share.

Thanks @Heli - you might have noticed that we’ve made some additional visible refinements (Smart Bets and Personal Experiments - access these in Goals as well), but what people might not realize is that this has been deeply integrated (along with the Flourishing Map) throughout the recommendations within the system. There’s also a lot more help describing our approach as well as how we are thinking about the evidence that can inform them available through “Explain this” buttons in most of the major views (Goals Command Center, Smart Bets, Experiments, (get into) Focus modes, and the Rituals.

I thought it might be helpful to just clarify here the difference between Smart Bets and Personal Experiments:

A Smart Bet is a ‘new direction or project/product/service’ you want to try which has a reasonable chance of succeeding given your current skills or data; Smart Bets usually have a longer timeframe, like 3-6 months.

A Personal Experiment, in comparison, is a small easily-measurable experiment you try in a short timeframe such as 1-2 weeks to see what you’ll learn from it. Naturally, you could run a number of short Personal Experiments as part of a longer-term Smart Bet.

I hope this helps others in the community to frame their thinking in how to use these powerful features in MakeTimeFlow.

Thanks for clarifying that for everyone @Heli We’ll be working on a lot more content about this. I’ve worked hard to train the AI assistant to help you make and refine your smart bets, so if you are confused feel free to try a conversation in the system to help you explore our Smart bets could help you (and Personal Experiments).

Just a quick nuance - I think of KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) etc as being 3 month targets. Smart bets are usually shorter ~4 week experiments that help you address the most important issues for you to be able to achieve your ambitious KPIs etc. Done well, smart bets should help you to be able to tackle or refine ambitious KPIs in a much more growth/agile way.
